-Background-
I became interested in photography in the 1970’s when I worked as a “Staff” photographer on the yearbook at North Country Union High School in Newport, VT. This course of study introduced me to photojournalism. Which led me to serve for four years as a photojournalist for a weekly publication, the Chronicle, located in Barton, VT. I then transitioned to portrait and candid photography after intensive studies at the New England Institute of Professional Photography. I have also studied privately with some of the leading photographers throughout North America. Whipple's Studio was established in 1980 and has grown to include portrait services for nearly 10,000 people per year and 30 wedding candid events annually. I continue my educational experience each year with 3 weeks of continued studies. ~ Don Whipple ~ -Equipment-
The equipment are the tools to take my creative thought processes to the finished photograph. I spare nothing when it comes to these tools. Prior to digital photography, I chose medium format as the format since it produced spectacular results, giving the client sharp images that were full of detail. My camera equipment of choice is Canon. Canon because this equipment is absolutely wonderful! Camera bodies are weather tight and full of dependable and useful features. The lenses are fantastic, complete with Image Stabilization to ensure sharpness under difficult lighting conditions. -Lab- Early in my career I thought it prudent to process my own images, to take control of the image quality and to have a true understanding of the photographic process, both emotionally and scientifically. That tradition has continued with an investment of lab equipment and personnel to process all images “in house”. Printing capabilities include C-41 processing, RA-4 printing from wallets to 30x40’s and alternative digital processes as well as complete digital printing. |
